2017 Emmy's Preview

I figured I'd give it a shot regarding some Emmy's predictions. A fair warning, a lot of these are either going to be pure guesses, or what I want to happen, so don't judge this on accuracy. With that, here we go.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie:
Bill Camp - The Night Of
Alfred Molina - Feud: Bette and Joan
Alexander Skarsgard - Big Little Lies
David Thewlis - Fargo
Stanley Tucci - Feud: Bette and Joan
Michael K. Williams - The Night Of

Remember how I just said that a lot of these guesses would be a shot in the dark? Well.....

Pick: Alexander Skarsgard

Outstanding Supporting Actress In a Limited Series or Movie:
Judy Davis - Feud: Bette and Joan
Laura Dern - Big Little Lies
Jackie Hoffman - Feud: Bette and Joan
Regina King - American Crime
Michelle Pfeiffer - The Wizard of Lies
Shailene Woodley - Big Little Lies

The winds seem to be shifting towards someone from Big Little Lies or Feud here, but I'm going outside the box with Regina King. Among her time at American Crime, she had her toughest role yet this past season.

Outstanding Lead Actor In a Limited Series or Movie:
Riz Ahmed - The Night Of
Benedict Cumberbatch - Sherlock: "The Lying Detective"
Robert De Niro - The Wizard of Lies
Ewan McGregor - Fargo
Geoffrey Rush - Genius
John Turturro - The Night Of

Again, another shot in the dark.

Pick: Riz Ahmed

Outstanding Lead Actress In a Limited Series or Movie:
Carrie Coon - Fargo
Felicity Huffman - American Crime
Nicole Kidman - Big Little Lies
Jessica Lange - Feud: Bette and Joan
Susan Sarandon - Feud: Bette and Joan
Reese Witherspoon - Big Little Lies

With such a talented field, I'm going with someone from Big Little Lies, and that's Nicole Kidman

Outstanding Limited Series:
Big Little Lies
Fargo
Feud: Bette and Joan
Genius
The Night Of

Again, a pure guess, but with how I have these fields turning out, I'm going Big Little Lies.

Outstanding Television Movie:
Black Mirror: "San Junipero"
Dolly Parton's Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Sherlock: "The Lying Detective"
The Wizard of Lies

Pick - Sherlock: "The Lying Detective"

Outstanding Reality - Competition Program:
The Amazing Race
American Ninja Warrior
Project Runway
RuPaul's Drag Race
Top Chef
The Voice

I'm going with RuPaul's Drag Race, it really felt like it broke out into the mainstream this year.

Outstanding Variety Talk Series:
Full Frontal with Samantha Bee
Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
The Late Late Show with James Corden
Real Time with Bill Maher

Quite a field, and good to see Colbert in the mix. Its really tough to choose, but I'm leaning towards Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. His show has just kept gaining in relevancy, with well-drawn out pieces.

Outstanding Variety Sketch Series:
Billy on the Street
Documentary Now!
Drunk History
Portlandia
Saturday Night Live
Tracy Ullman's Show

This one pretty much seems like a slam dunk, Saturday Night Live.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
Jonathan Banks - Better Call Saul
David Harbour - Stranger Things
Ron Cephas Jones - This Is Us
Michael Kelly - House of Cards
John Lithgow - The Crown
Mandy Patinkin - Homeland
Jeffrey Wright - Westworld

As much as I want to go with Jones, I'm heading towards David Harbour. Throughout Stranger Things, he meshed with everyone incredibly well.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Uzo Aduba - Orange Is The New Black
Millie Bobby Brown - Stranger Things
Ann Dowd - The Handmaid's Tale
Chrissy Metz - This Is Us
Thandie Newton - Westworld
Samira Wiley - The Handmaid's Tale

A tough field here. As I said, a lot of these picks are what I hope happens, so with that I'm going with Millie Bobby Brown. She provided so much depth to her character, and really made her feel believable, given the sci-fi aspects of the show.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
Sterling K. Brown - This Is Us
Anthony Hopkins - Westworld
Bob Odenkirk - Better Call Saul
Matthew Rhys - The Americans
Liev Schreiber - Ray Donovan
Kevin Spacey - House of Cards
Milo Ventimiglia - This Is Us

Here's where I give This Is Us its due with Sterling K. Brown.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
Viola Davis - How To Get Away With Murder
Claire Foy - The Crown
Elisabeth Moss - The Handmaid's Tale
Keri Russell - The Americans
Evan Rachel Wood - Westworld
Robin Wright - House of Cards

Given the amount of buzz its gotten, I'm going with Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid's Tale.

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
Louis Anderson - Baskets
Alec Baldwin - Saturday Night Live
Titus Burgess - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Ty Burrell - Modern Family
Tony Hale - Veep
Matt Walsh - Veep

After a cycle of merely average Trump impersonations over the past couple years, SNL finally found their man with Alec Baldwin.

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Vanessa Bayer - Saturday Night Live
Anna Chlumsky - Veep
Kathryn Hahn - Transparent
Leslie Jones - Saturday Night Live
Judith Light - Transparent
Kate McKinnon - Saturday Night Live

Kate McKinnon is arguably the MVP of SNL at the moment, pulling off both Hillary Clinton and Kellyanne Conway flawlessly...and don't forget about Jeff Sessions.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
Anthony Anderson - Black-ish
Aziz Ansari - Master of None
Zach Galifianakis - Baskets
Donald Glover - Atlanta
William H. Macey - Shameless
Jeffrey Tambor - Transparent

This very well may go Ansari's way, but I'm going with my fav in Anthony Anderson. He's just gotten better in every season of Black-ish.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Pamela Adlon - Better Things
Jane Fonda - Grace and Frankie
Allison Janney - Mom
Ellie Kemper - Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - Veep
Tracee Ellis Ross - Black-ish
Lily Tomlin - Grace and Frankie

As much as things change, some things just stay the same, Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Outstanding Drama Series:
Better Call Saul
The Crown
The Handmaid's Tale
House of Cards
Stranger Things
This Is Us
Westworld

I really want to go with This Is Us.....but call me a follower, I'm going Stranger Things. From a narrative aspect it was crisp, and never overstayed its welcome episode to episode. Also what I appreciated from it, was the way the characters were written. I never really found myself annoyed at any particular decision the main characters made (somewhat of a rarity).

Outstanding Comedy Series:
Atlanta
Black-ish
Master of None
Modern Family
Silicon Valley
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Veep

A tough call, but I'm going with Black-ish. Given the political climate, you could make the case that Black-ish had its most important season yet (as cliché as that sounds), but it really provided an intelligent perspective.

2017 NFL Season Preview

AFC East

The Jets and Bills have both showed signs of tanking (Jets even more-so), and the Dolphins are rolling with Jay Cutler for the year at QB. So things look like they'll mostly be the same.

1) Patriots (12-4)
2) Dolphins (7-9)
3) Bills (5-11)
4) Jets (2-14)

AFC North

This could be a competitive division (browns aside). The Ravens offense has been very hit or miss, and you never know what version of Andy Dalton you're going to get from week to week with the Bengals. Meanwhile, the Steelers will have WR Martavis Bryant back for the year, along with a few added pieces on defense that'll make all the difference.

1) Steelers (11-5)
2) Bengals (9-7)
3) Ravens (8-8)
4) Browns (3-13)

AFC South

The Colts have some major question marks on the status of Andrew Luck. Will he be slowed down/hobbled by injuries throughout the year? The Texans have a solid defense (depending on J.J Watt), but some questions at QB as well. Meanwhile, the Titans look to be a young team on the rise.

1) Titans (10-6)
2) Colts (9-7)
3) Texans (8-8)
4) Jaguars (4-12)

AFC West

Who knows how far the Raiders could have gone if not for Derek Carr's injury down the stretch last season. But they'll face some competition from the Chiefs, who aren't all that flashy usually, but seem to get things done and wear a team down. The Broncos offense looks like it'll still be sluggish like last year, and the Chargers will see what they can do in their new L.A home.

1) Raiders (12-4)
2) Chiefs (11-5)
3) Broncos (8-8)
4) Chargers (5-11)

Playoff Seedings:
1) Patriots
2) Raiders
------------
3) Steelers
4) Titans
(WC)
5) Chiefs
6) Bengals

AFC Wildcard

Chiefs vs Titans

AFC Divisional

NFC East

The jury's still out on how the Cowboys offense will respond to a possible 6 game suspension of RB Ezekiel Elliot. With both Dallas and Philadelphia, there's the question if QB's Dak Prescott and Carson Wentz will suffer a sophomore slump. The Giants offense got an added boost with WR Brandon Marshall, and Washington could be seeing their last season with Kirk Cousins.

1) Cowboys (10-6)
2) Washington (9-7)
3) Giants (9-7)
4) Eagles (8-8)

NFC North

The Packers needed a late season run to reach the postseason last year. Will Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay be more primed from the start? Matthew Stafford recently got a massive contract extension, will he live up to that contract? And how will the Vikings respond without Adrian Peterson?

1) Packers (13-3)
2) Lions (9-7)
3) Vikings (7-9)
4) Bears (4-12)

NFC South

The NFC South tends to fluctuate from year to year, but we could see some stability this time around. Matt Ryan and the Falcons will be determined, looking to bounce back from that brutal Super Bowl collapse. The Panthers will be looking to stay healthy all year long, and the Bucs are looking to progress.

1) Falcons (11-5)
2) Panthers (10-6)
3) Saints (8-8)
4) Buccaneers (7-9)

 NFC West

The NFC West could be a very one-sided division. The Seahawks look poised, and with the Cardinals, you don't know how much more they'll get from Carson Palmer.
1) Seahawks (12-4)
2) Cardinals (7-9)
3) Rams (5-11)
4) 49ers (4-12)

Playoff Seedings:
1) Packers
2) Seahawks
