2019 Draft: Steelers Prospects Preview - Pt. 2





These draft prospects come from a selection of mock drafts connected to the steelers, and/or team visits. The player summaries come from NFL.com.



S Nasir Adderley (Delaware)  6' 206lbs

2018: 2nd FCS All-American, 1st All-CAA, 87tckls/1.5TFLs, 4INTs/7 breakups

strengths: An explosive player. Smooth, extended backpedal with fluid hips. Lateral quickness and agility to tackle in space. Goes low to wrap up. Closing burst to challenge catch. CB instincts & ball-skills. A high-point ball hawk.

weaknesses: Erratic in recognition. Can be manipulated by play design. Tends to hyper-focus on a target. Struggles to locate proper pursuit angles. A grab & drag tackler.

comp: Jessie Bates

grade: 5.82 (Chance to be a starter)




TE T.J Hockenson (Iowa)  6'5" 251lbs

2018: Mackey Award, 1st All-B10, 49rec/760yds/6TDs

combine: 4.70s 40, 17reps, 37.5" vert

strengths: Bursts upfield. Runs leveraged, sharp routes. Accelerates out of cuts. Above-average catch radius. He punches with crisp, inside hands as a blocker. Sustains & finishes blocks.

weaknesses: High-point attempts are slightly mistimed. Early over-step loses desired block centering. Needs better anticipation & adjustment to moving targets.

comp: Travis Kelce

grade: 6.35 (Should be an instant starter)




WR Emanuel Hall (Missouri)  6'2" 201lbs

2018: 2nd All-SEC, 37rec/828yds/6TDs

combine: 4.39s 40, 15reps, 43.5" vert

strengths: A smooth release with instant acceleration. A long-strider. Rare stop-start quickness for his size. Feet are quick & choppy into breaks for short-area separation. Burst & stride to become a playmaking menace on crossers and slants.

weaknesses: His route inventory is lacking. Routes lack finesse. Ball skills are below average. Doesn't attack the football. Needs to prove he can compete for the ball in traffic.

comp: Mike Wallace

grade: 5.81 (Chance to become a starter)




LB Devin White (LSU)  6' 237lbs

2018: 1st All-SEC, 1st All-American, Butkus Award, 123tckls/12TFLs, 3scks, 3FFs, 6 breakups

combine: 4.42s 40, 22reps, 39.5" vert

strengths: Quick-twitch trigger with a big burst to close. Agility to sift from gap to gap to track bouncing runners. Lose upper body to spin & pivot around moving blocks. Aggressive & purposeful in forcing the ball loose. Has active hands.

weaknesses: Can be fooled by fakes & misdirections. Too many false steps in initial movement. Not a natural knee bender in space. Take-on technique needs work. Misses tackles when his footwork and scrape balance gets too lose.

comp: Myles Jack

grade: 6.24 (Should be an instant starter)




WR Kelvin Harmon (North Carolina St)  6'2" 221lbs

2018: 1st All-ACC, 81rec/1,186yds/7TDs

combine: 4.60s 40, 18reps, 32.5" vert

strengths: Can play pitch & catch. Has the radar to find open space in zones. A physical receiver. Aggressive at the top of the route. Expert ball-tracker. Has strong hands. Contested catches are not a problem.

weaknesses: Average foot quickness. Doesn't have enough vertical push. Too reliant upon his size & power. Lacks the juice to add many yards after the catch.

comp: Mohamed Sanu

grade: 5.62 (Chance to be a starter)




DE/OLB Montez Sweat (Mississippi St) 6'6" 260lbs

2018: 1st All-SEC, 2nd All-American, 53tckls/14TFLs, 11.5scks

combine: 4.41s 40, 21reps, 36" vert

strengths: Has surprising power in his punch. Ability to press & separate from the blocker. Creates leverage point with his hand strikes. Uses length to his advantage. Can flurry his hands during rush to discombobulate tackles. Has slippery hips.

weaknesses: Needs more fluidity in rush transitions & counters. Needs faster, more violent hands. Limited conversion of speed to power. Lacks power in his lean lower half. Issues coming to balance to tackle in the open field.

comp: Danielle Hunter

grade: 6.34 (Should be an instant starter)




CB Julian Love (Notre Dame)  5'11" 195lbs

2018: 1st All-American, 63tckls/3TFLs, 1INT/16 breakups, 3FRs

combine: 4.54s 40, 14reps, 36" vert

strengths: He's highly instinctive. Has a low, smooth backpedal. Anticipates routes. Never far from the route. Drives in front of the catch point to make plays. Times hand swipes around the face of crossing routes. Has plus-body control.

weaknesses: Could use added play strength. Issues getting banged around at the top of routes. Unable to crank up to a top gear and carry long speed. He's better suited for boundary than field corner.

comp: A.J Bouye

grade: 6.10 (Should be an instant starter)




RB Rodney Anderson (Oklahoma)  6' 224lbs

2018: 11car/119yds/3TDs

combine: 25reps

strengths: Runs with some looseness in his hips. Instinctive in maneuvering through interior traffic. A rhythmic runner who can cut without slowing. Patient hiding behind blockers. Stiff-arm is a reliable deterrent. A capable pass-catcher with good hands.

weaknesses: Lacks twitch & dynamic movement. Marginal difference in burst between 1st & 2nd gear. Takes punishing shots. Struggles to elude tackles in close quarters. Has an injury history. Below-average awareness.

comp: Stevan Ridley

grade: 5.63 (Chance to be a starter)




CB Amani Oruwariye (Penn St)  6'2" 205lbs

2018: 1st All-Big10, 51tckls/2TFLs, 3INTs/12 breakups

combine: 4.47s 40, 17reps, 36.5" vert

strengths: Good recognition & reaction in zone coverage. Good recognition of double moves. Outstanding on-ball production. Takes smart paths to the throw. Physical & assertive attacking the catch-point. Handles duties in run support.

weaknesses: Lacks fluid hips & feet to mirror routes from a pedal. Slow to accelerate from change of direction. Crossing routes can get away from him. Has issues with long speed & recovery.

comp: Rasul Douglas

grade: 5.74 (Chance to be a starter)




S Taylor Rapp (Washington)  6' 208lbs

2018: 1st All-PAC12, 59tckls/6TFLs, 5scks, 2INTs/5 breakups, 3FRs

combine: 17reps, 35" vert

strengths: Has a top notch football IQ. Able to handle man-cover duties on TEs. Recognizes run-lane devleopment. Takes accurate pursuit angles. Always comes to balance & widens out to tackle. A gifted kickoff cover-man.

weaknesses: Has an average lateral burst as an open-field tackler. Ability to range over the top appears to be average. Routes to the throw can be conservative.

grade: 5.91 (Chance to be a starter)




LB Terrill Hanks (New Mexico St)  6'2" 242lbs

2018: 101tckls/8.5TFLs, 1INT/2 breakups

combine: 4.98s 40, 21reps, 35.5" vert

strengths: A forceful striker. Attacks TEs with aggressive hands & wide base. Shows feel for angles on twists as a rusher. Productive in coverage. Physical redirecting TEs & slots. A core special teams player.

weaknesses: Tendency to overflow run fits. Struggles to leverage gaps with adequate anchor. Below-average body control. His hand usage to play off blocks is uneven. Sluggish to sink & change direction. Gets grabby in coverage. Lacks eye balance.

grade: 5.25 (Backup/Special teams potential)




DT Daylon Mack (Texas A&M)  6'1"  336lbs

2018: 32tckls/10TFLs, 5.5scks, 1 blocked kick

combine: 5.10s 40, 30reps, 27" vert


strengths: A desired center of gravity. Quick reaction to snap firing out of his stance. Combination of balance & upper-body strength. Anticipates double teams. Plays with a wide base & quality shed-strength.

weaknesses: Inconsistent feel for down blocks on the edge. Tackle radius is limited. Underwhelming body of work.

comp: Dan Williams

grade: 5.40 (Backup/Special teams potential)




RB James Williams (Washington St)  5'9" 197lbs

2018: Honorable All-PAC12, 119car/552yds/12TDs, 76rec/560yds/4TDs

combine: 4.58s 40, 36.5" vert

strengths: Has oily hips & slippery feet. Shifty to the perimeter and open space. Spins & balances out of contact. Has an underrated stiff-arm. Has the athleticism to be an effective route runner. Recognizes where the rush comes from.

weaknesses: Narrow base with linear frame. Inconsistent block recognition. Indecisive without a clear point of entry. Has focus drops. 

grade: 5.10 (Better than average chance to make a roster)



WR D.K Metcalf (Ole Miss)  6'3" 228lbs 

2018: 26rec/569yds/5TDs

combine: 4.33s 40, 27reps, 40.5" vert

strengths: A quick-twitch athlete. Light feet to stutter & trigger an explosive release. Hauled in one-handed circus catches. Consistently creates late-catch space with subtle hand usage. Effective use of size to wall off defenders as  a perimeter blocker.

weaknesses: Rushes through pattern ingredients. Fails to sell route fakes. Has a history of season ending injuries. Focus drops when working back to the ball. Needs better positioning of his big frames.

comp: Josh Gordon

grade: 6.30 (Should be an instant starter)
