2019 Draft: Steelers Prospects Preview - Pt. 5

WR Miles Boykin (Notre Dame)  6'4"  220lbs














2018: 59rec/872yds/8TDs

combine: 4.42s 40, 12reps, 43.5" vert

strengths: Has loose hips with long strides. Athleticism & body control to pivot and twist to back shoulder catches. Meets throws with good arm extension away from his body. High-point will be the highest on the field. His tape shows leaping grabs.

weaknesses: Hasn't learned to counter press jabs with his hands. Stride length limits burst out of top of routes. Below-average downfield adjustments. Needs more aggressiveness & play-strength. His catch focus runs hot & cold.

comp: Kenny Golladay

S Mike Edwards (Kentucky)  5'10"  205lbs














2018: 82tckls/9TFL, 2INTs/6 breakups, 1FF

strengths: An aggressive slot blitzer. Triggers downhill. Adequate feet as a CB to adjust to WR's release. Smart & instinctive from zone coverage. Has proper balance between targets. Anticipates patterns. Above-average ball skills. 

weaknesses: Too handsy & grabby. Lax in route redirection. Slow to ramp up acceleration. His click & close burst is average. Inconsistent playing off of blocks near the box.

comp: M.J. Stewart

grade: 5.59 (Chance to be a starter)



S Darnell Savage (Maryland)  5'11"  198lbs














2018: 2nd All-Big10, 52tckls/5.5TFL, 4INTs/2 brekaups

combine: 4.36s 40, 11reps, 39.5" vert

strengths: A twitchy, urgent athlete. Makeup speed to chase down throws. Thrives in off-man from the slot. Above-average coverage IQ. Smooth hips with sharp burst. Shows lurker qualities. Takes laser-focused paths to avoid traffic in run support. A good radar to seek & tackle on the move.

weaknesses: Could struggle to elevate & challenge high-points. Needs to build more downhill momentum as a tackler. Becomes a grab & drag tackler when his feet are stationary.

comp: Lamarcus Joyner

grade: 5.63 (Chance to be a starter)



DE Charles Omenihu (Texas)  6'5"  280lbs
















2018: Honorable All-Big12, 45tckls/18TFL, 9.5scks, 2 breakups

combine: 4.92s 40, 36.5" vert

strengths: Length to lock-out on tackles & TEs when setting an edge. Explodes with some twitch out of his stance. Has a better edge attack than expected. Ankle flexibility allows for a rip & bend edge move. Leg drive to plow through redirection by tackles.

weaknesses: Below-average tackle radius. Body control & balance are below par. Inconsistent hand usage. Limited gas tank hinders pursuit effectiveness. Pass rush can be telegraphed. Struggles to alters rush path in response to mobile QBs.

comp: Romeo Okwara

grade: 5.53 (Chance to be a starter)



DE/OLB Ben Banogu (TCU)  6'3"  250lbs














2018: 1st All-Big 12, 57tckls/18TFL, 8.5scks

combine: 4.62s 40, 23reps, 40" vert

strengths: Foot quickness & agility to later rush challenges. A good awareness of pocket depth. Ability to push tackles up the pocket & spin back underneath. Quick to drop & shuffle behind his tackles. Capable to punch & play off of TE blocks. 

weaknesses: Predictable pass rusher. Needs to improve his hands. A stiff punch from long-armed tackle ends his snap. Missing base power to set the edge. Too many missed tackles from poor positioning & balance.

grade: 5.39 (Backup/Special Teams potential)



WR Mecole Hardman (Georgia)  5'10"  187lbs
















2018: 34rec/532yds/7TDs, 5car/36yds, 2nd All-SEC returner (1 punt TD)

combine: 4.33s 40, 17reps, 36.5" vert

strengths: Early burst turns to pull-away speed on vertical routes. A smooth ball-tracker. Combines speed & quickness to uncover on all 3 levels. Wiggle to elude the 1st tackle. A tough runner with the ball.

weaknesses: Lacks commitment & urgency on in-breaking routes. Inconsistent acceleration out of breaks & cuts routes shorts. Struggles with contested catches. Needs to learn to body defenders & protect throws.

comp: Tyler Lockett

grade: 5.73 (Chance to be a starter)



S Ugo Amadi (Oregon)  5'9"  199lbs
















2018: Honorable All-Pac12, 55tckls/5TFL, 1.5scks, 3INTs/2 TDs/ 8 breakups, 1 punt TD

combine: 4.51s 40, 18reps, 32.5" vert

strengths: Has fast feet. Has nickel or free safety versatility. Good awareness from zone. Consistent ball production. Has punt return ability, a physical returner. Under control as a downhill tackler in space. Strong hands rake & pull the ball free. 

weaknesses: Slow to accelerate to top speed. Gives up troubling initial separation on deep throws. Lateral transitions are limited by short burst strides. Struggles to challenge high-point. A grab & drag tackler.

comp: Omar Bolden

grade: 5.34 (Backup/Special Teams potential)


RB Miles Sanders (Penn State)  5'11"  211lbs













2018: 2nd All-Big10, 220car/1,274yds/9TDs, 24rec/139yds

combine: 4.49s 40, 20reps, 36" vert

strengths: Typically patient. Good vision & quick to process. Footwork to probe & dart around early traffic. Able to string his moves together. Lateral agility for slick side-door exits. Above-average contact balance. Creates through elusiveness & power.

weaknesses: Needs to run with more plant-and-go mentality. Lacks explosiveness & speed to the corner. Average access to burst after cuts. Doesn't separate from LBs on wheel routes. Some ball security issues.

grade: 5.80 (Chance to be a starter)



RB Damien Harris (Alabama)  5'10"  216lbs





















2018: 2nd All-SEC, 150car/876yds/9TDs, 22rec/204yds

combine: 4.57s 40, 16reps, 37" vert

strengths: Runs through initial contact. Patient zone runner. Keeps runs true to designated point of entry. Sudden jump-cut for alternate lane choice. Tremendous feel for space. Works away from traffic while maintaining efficient rush track. Mixes it up in blitz pick-up. Uses good technique to square & sustain blocks. Very capable as a dump-off pass catcher.

weaknesses: Doesn't have burst to & around the perimeter. Average burst through the line of scrimmage. Struggles to get accelerator racing again when forced to slow feet. Limited ability to find subtle crevices.

comp: Cedric Benson

grade: 5.82 (Chance to be a starter)



TE Alize Mack (Notre Dame)  6'4"  249lbs














2018: 36rec/360yds/3TDs

combine: 4,70s 40, 22reps, 36" vert

strengths: Very comfortable working from the slot. Comes off the snap with very good early push into routes. Carries good straight-line speed. Good pluck & tuck ball skills when throws are wide of frame. Can absorb contact & finish catches in traffic. 

weaknesses: Upright into breaks. Not much shake as an open-filled runner. Lacks agility to elude DBs. Inconsistent avoiding forceful route redirection. Had a high drop rate. Positioning & footwork as a blocker leaves much to be desired.

grade: 5.49 (Backup/Special teams potential)



WR Dillon Mitchell (Oregon)  6'1"  197lbs













2018: 2nd All-Pac12, 75rec/1,184yds/10TDs

combine: 4.46s 40, 12reps, 36.5" vert

strengths: Experience outside and from the slot. Doesn't shrink from route contact. Good early burst to uncover on crossing routes. Effective ball-tracking. Loose hips to slide out of tackle attempts. Able to bound & elude multiple tacklers after the catch. Instinctive runner with the ball.

weaknesses: Can be smothered by long press CBs. Routs lack discipline & focus. Needs to play faster more consistently. Too many uncontested focus drops. Non-factor as a blocker.

comp: T.J. Jones

grade: 5.39 (Backup/Special Teams potential)


RB Travis Homer (Miami)  5'10"  201lbs













2018: 2nd All-ACC, 164car/985yds/4TDs, 19rec/186yds

combine: 4.48s 40, 17reps, 39.5" vert

strengths: Runs with pace & conviction. Good lateral agility. Footwork to navigate traffic. Able to make late, sudden cuts. Above-average contact balance. Finds ways to resist traffic. One of the top pass protectors. 

weaknesses: History of fumbles. Needs to improve his field vision. Inconsistent setting up tacklers. Quick to duck his hands. Takes on tacklers in the hole rather than eluding him.

comp: Austin Ekeler

grade: 5.40 (Backup/Special Teams potential)
